Bonsai need about 5 hours of direct or indirect sunlight per day. Certain species of bonsai do best in the winter if they receive most of their light from indirect sources.

a general rule, the best way to find out if the bonsai tree needs water or not is to feel the soil. Push a finger one inch into the soil and if there is not much moisture in the top one inch of the soil, then it is time to water the bonsai.
