Appearance & Structure

Shape: Characterized by a perfectly globe-like (barrel) shape when young, gradually elongating into an oblong, cylindrical column as it matures.

Spines: Features striking, dense, and sharp golden-yellow spines aligned along pronounced vertical ribs, giving the cactus its iconic golden glow.

Color: The body of the cactus is a vibrant, deep green, which creates a stunning contrast with its bright yellow spines.

Growth & Flowering

Blooms: Produces small, funnel-shaped, silky yellow flowers at the crown of the plant. Flowering typically occurs only on mature specimens after many years.

Size & Growth Rate: A very slow-growing cactus, but over decades, it can reach impressive sizes, growing up to 1 meter (or more) in both height and diameter.
