Plant Type: Perennial herb, evergreen.
Form and Appearance:
Leaves: Narrow, strap-like, arching, dark green in colour, resemble grass blades but are denser and more robust, growing in thick clumps.
Flowers: Appear on upright spikes (racemes) rising above the foliage, small, globe-shaped, and are often violet-purple or lilac-blue (some varieties are white).
Flowering Time: Late summer into autumn.
Fruit: The flowers are followed by small, shiny, black, berry-like fruits, which often persist through winter.
Common Uses:
Groundcover: Excellent for covering large areas.
Edging: Ideal for defining the edges of walkways and garden beds.
Planting Under Trees and Shrubs: Grows well in shaded areas.
