This plant needs bright light, including some direct sunlight, to flower well. However, it requires protection from intense midday direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves of young plants. A suitable location is a room with east- or west-facing windows. Avoid rooms with only north-facing windows.

Keep the soil consistently moist throughout the year. You don't want it to be waterlogged, but you can expect it to need watering daily in the spring and summer as it loses moisture through its large leaves. The plant prefers high humidity, and you might want to keep a spray bottle handy to mist it if your home is dry. If you overwater, the plant will develop crispy brown leaves. If underwatered, the leaves furthest from the center will turn yellow.
