It is very adaptable to a wide range of light. It will thrive in shady areas as well as areas with bright, indirect sunlight. It is more tolerant of deep shade than other common bromeliads. The more sunlight it receives, the more humidity it will need to avoid leaf burn.

This plant should be watered sparingly. The soil should never be more than slightly moist, nor should it be allowed to dry out completely. The top half of the plant can be allowed to dry out between waterings.

Ideally, the temperature should be between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius and never fall below 13 degrees Celsius. Therefore, the temperature of a house or apartment is ideal for its growth. The perfect location is where the plant receives no direct sunlight.

Fertilize two to three times a month from April to October. Use a specially formulated, water-soluble fertilizer, applied according to the label recommendations. Alternatively, use a general-purpose fertilizer diluted to one-quarter to one-eighth of the solution recommended on the label.
